We asked this month's Student of the Month, Jackie Petrow, to tell us a little bit about herself.

1. I learned the most sophomore year in Mrs. Keller's class. I missed two years of school for leukemia treatment, so I had no writing foundation. She really taught me how to write.

2. I want to major in political science and become a major activist for childhood cancer.

3. I'm the state representative for Cure Search, which raises pediatric- cancer research funds and awareness, so I have to go speak to Congress twice a year.

4. If I had to describe myself in two words, they would be optimistic and invincible.

5. My favorite book is Sisters by Danielle Steel. I can relate to it. The girl loses her sight, and art was her life. I lost my hearing, and music, piano and flute were my life.

Students are selected each month by administrators based on faculty nominations.
